Default How to tell AGP vs PCI G4

I have a g4/400. I can't remember how to tell if it is a PCI or an AGP. Anyone remember?

Open your Apple system profiler. In OS9 I believe its under the Apple in your menu bar.

In your PCI slots devices it will say if its (AGP).

Yes, like Kling 3 said. In your Apple system profiler, it will either say:

System Profile>Hardware Overview>Model Name>Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics)

or

System Profile>Hardware Overview>Model Name>Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics)

Duh here's an easier way. If your sound ports are arranged vertically then it's AGP, horizontially PCI. Check this link out:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58418

Scroll down on the link and look at the pictures!

Doesn't it suck you need an AGP mac to run Pro Tools 6!!! Read my "Disenfranchised" post!

I might sound dumb but... I don't even know the difference between the two... Just found out mine is AGP, so what does that mean for me now? Cheers...

hmmm... all of this is very interesting... because i go to look at my g4 in the system profiler, and i look, and all it says is Power Mac G4... nothing... no (AGP) or (PCI)! what does this mean? looked at the inputs on the back and apparently it is a digital video, judging by the apple link that one of you posted. I guess that means it's not compatible, right? is there any way i can get AGP without having to buy a new Mac? thanks for the help.

Actually I'm in the same boat as you! Let me guess you would like the AGP to run Pro Tools 6.0!!!

Bad news my friend, the AGP is part of the motherboard so you would have to change it out!

Since you already have a G4 processor it might not me that expensive for you since that is the only upgrade required. Might want to do some price matching.
