Eleven Rack with Big Sur 11.5.1

Hello - I am very new here. How is everyone?

I wanted to try and get some help - I am trying to hook up my eleven rack.
The goal is to see how it works with the free download of Pro Tools 2021.

If it works then I'll buy it. BUT first I can't even get Big Sur to see the device is connected. When I go to system preferences I can see the icon "Avid Eleven Rack" (I loaded the driver "Eleven_Rack_Drivers_1.2.14_Mac.dmg") when I click on the icon it reports "device not connected"

I am using a brand new USB 2.0 type B (from back of Eleven Rack) to the back of the monitor on the iMac

There were no problems loading the driver.

Is there something I am not doing or over looking? Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Hey buddy. My name is Raymond.

I have an Eleven Rack as well. The Eleven Rack has been discontinued as a product as of 6/30/19, however, product support remains until 6/30/34.

On 7/20/21 AVID surprised Eleven Rack owners with a driver update for macOS. Since the support date lasts for a while, I wouldn't be surprised is AVID releases a new driver/editor for new macOS versions, considering all the engineering going on with M1 and new macOS versions for new Pro Tools software.

Some people have reported success using the Eleven Rack drivers on certain versions of Big Sur.

I have the same question as @smm723 - I have been using an Eleven Rack with my iMac running High Sierra - everything worked great. I just got a Mac mini with M1 Chip running Big Sur and I get a message when I install the driver that the device is not connected

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated

Wondering if anyone has figured out how to get this to work or do we just have to wait for them to release a driver for 11R on Big Sur ?

Hi Welcome to DUC.

The answer for M1 is easy and should not be a surprise, but folks need to be careful discussing compatibility with say Big Sur or other recent macOS releases without clarifying they are talking about Intel or M1/Arm/Apple Silicon.

There is no support today for Eleven Rack drivers on M1 based systems. None. Nada. Zero. Zilch. Irrespective of macOS release, it will not work on any M1 system.

All Eleven Rack drivers available today are for Intel processors, that won't run on M1. Apps can use Rosetta 2 for compatibility, kernel drivers cannot.

Who knows if Avid will publish M1 drivers for the Eleven Rack, it would be nice if they do, but I'd not hold my breath, and Avid typically does not talk about future releases--wish they would. And remember it's not just a matter of Avid providing recent macOS support. Avid actually has to bundle M1/Arm/Apple Silicon drivers into the bundle along with Intel drivers... and that may involve more than a recompile and a few tweeks, how much work this is involved can vary widely.

The Eleven Rack is very usable as an outboard box to another interface, other recentish threads on DUC discussed lower-cost interfaces with S/PDIF in/out that allow connecting an Eleven Rack digitally.
