Default 6.4 It's up and working on Digi 001!

I finally updated both computer and ProTools. I had been running 5.4 on an old 800Mhz pentium with 98SE. The motherboard I had didn't support the higher bus speed of the CPU so it was throttled back to 600hz.

I had originally thought of getting a new motherboard and using leftover parts from my son's gaming upgrades but then the solution dawned on me. I had plenty of older AMD motherboards so I decided to look them up here. Turns out the Asus A7V8X was very stable with the 001 and I have 3. In fact my Linux box was using this motherboard with an Athlon XP 2100+. So I went from 98 to XP and 600Mhz to 1.8Ghz.

I checked this weekend and the 6.4 upgrade is back up on the Digi Store. I set up XP on the computer (I'll have to find a new Linux box) and downloaded 6.4 and installed it. First project I opened from my old system worked without much of a hitch (fader settings and File allocation dialog box came up).

Perhaps I'll make the 2.4Ghz dual core Intel my new Linux box. Which means I'll still need a motherboard.

Thanks everyone for the input and advice.

I need to go dress the cables and put the case back together. Maybe it's time to order a rack mount case next time NewEgg has free shipping.

Have you added CS6 and CS9 to PT, and and added SP2 to the OS?

I haven't decided on upgrading the OS yet. Still need to do more research. I read the installation note and figured I would start with automatic updates off and see if it worked first. It was only an investment of $35 and a little time. The computer was already built I just needed to add the 001 card and the OS.

My last system never saw the internet and this may be the way I go on this system as well. I hooked it up to register the OS and download 6.4. I have plenty of other computers for personal use and would rather have stability.

I did find that one of the motherboards has an Athlon XP 2500+ so I may swap the processor out. I also am digging through memory modules looking for 2 gigs of DDR 3200 400. Right now I have two 512 modules in. It is working fine but I figure if I have more to add I will.

So fill me in, how much of a hassle are the updates? Should I bother or stay away?

The system has been working amazingly great considering the age. I am still waiting for the memory I ordered but did swap out the CPU for a slightly faster one.

For now I've decided to leave it all alone and not try to update the OS to SP3. As you say, if it ain't broke.

Well worth the $35

Hi Guys, have to do a new rebuild for my 001. I have a P5LD2 Deluxe MOB, with P4 3.4ghz cpu (chipset Intel 945P memory controller Hub). Do you think it will work?

Alternatively : I have another board and cpu A8v-E SE (chipset VIA K8T890) with AMD 64 3700+ cpu

Can anyone advise if I'm on the right track or if either board, cpu config will work.

thanks:

cs6 and cs9 are customer service updates which include bug fixes and compatibility with SP2/SP3.

Latest PACE Drivers and QuickTime should be installed as well as updating Windows to SP3.

Cheers,
