Default Beware 5.1 w/1622!

So I happily install my free 5.1 upgrade. I get the below DAE error -7101 and spend a couple hours troubleshooting, finally search the Digi Web Answerbase and find this:

"DAE Error -7101 with a 1622 as the first Interface when Pro Tools 5.1 with DAE 5.1.
Use DAE version 5.1cs4.
It is located on the Pro Tools 5.1 Installer in the Beta/Bug Fix Software folder."

Hey guess what? The DAE version they say will fix the problem isn't on the Pro Tools Installer disk!! It's not anywhere on the website either. I'm screwed. Looks like I'll have to try and go back to 5.0.1 until they realize DAE 5.1cs4 isn't on their installer and they put it on their website.

Thanks a million Digidesign.

We've had the same problem. A workaround (for now) is to assign the 1622 as two 882/20 and then delete the outputs in the I/O window that you don't use.

Does that actually work? Fooling the software that two 882's are being used instaed of a 1622?
Neet trick, and good to know, cause I own two systems that use 1622's and am about to upgrade to 5.1
Thanx

The problem only occurs when the 1622 is the first interface. You can solve the input level problem by installing it as a 1622, set the levels and then change to 2 x 882 and leave the levels alone.

The cs4 1622 fix was supposed to be included on the PT 5.1 Mac TDM installer CD-ROM. We apologize that it was mistakenly left off the disc. We are working to get a downloadable fix on our website asap.

>>The problem only occurs when the 1622 is the first interface.

This is correct. An easy work-around exists if you have any other peripherals in your system. If you have, let's say, an 888|24 and a 1622, connect the 888|24 to your d24/Mix Core and connect the 1622 to any Farm card. Thus the 1622 will be configured as something other than your first peripheral. (Connecting the 1622 to your Core card via a Y-cable as periph "B" is not a work-around for this problem.)

The other mentioned work-around may also work but the drawback is that you won't have software control over any 1622 specific settings. Joris hinted at this drawback when he noted that you can't set the 1622's level controls after configuring it as two 882's.

Jim West,

Thanks for your response. If as you said DAE 5.1cs4 was just mistakenly left off the installer disk, that sounds like it does in fact exist, so I would think it would be very quick and easy to put it on your website, no?

I realize that solo 1622 compatibility was probably not a priority because you can't monitor 5.1 mixes with just a 1622, but I would imagine there are a lot of us out there with 1622s that for now just want to upgrade for the new features other than
5.1 output.
