Re: Moving to Mac Studio Ultra... first version of a new line.
All the M1 chips are very similar and have proved themselves in the wild. I was wondering if my Ultra would be able to sustain heavy CPU loads for hours and hours (the way my old Intel Mac Pro did). I can happily report that it does. Coming from a MP 5,1, you will be shocked by how smooth and zippy the computer GUI is. Be aware that most professional users are running Pro Tools in Rosetta mode since many plug-ins are not ready for Apple Silicon mode. In my experience, this hasn't been an issue. Rosetta performance is excellent. Give yourself a lot of time configuring the new Mac. Try hybrid mode.

Re: Moving to Mac Studio Ultra... first version of a new line.
Good, good, good...
Thanks for all these recommendations ! Trigger pulled, it will be Ultra (no extra GPU power) , 128g Ram, 8To HD. I guess I could use it for a few years if it doesn't break Can't wait ! Cheers Raf |

Re: Moving to Mac Studio Ultra... first version of a new line.
I would be very surprised if Apple left such a vast gap between their top and bottom models. Unless they lower the price a decent margin, the MacPro simply isn't a feasible (nor necessary) option for the bulk of music and audio guys. As it is, even the Mac Studio is overkill, with plenty of room to grow. If this model goes away then there's nothing for me to buy w/ the Pro's laughable price tag and the Mini's lack of ability. My requirements aren't unique -- pretty common actually -- so a chunk of creators like me would be left in the cold. I don't see it happening, *unless* the Mini takes some major strides in performance.

Congrats! Good choice. And yes you'll be able to use it for many years.

Re: Moving to Mac Studio Ultra... first version of a new line.
"new balls" all the way, I'll try those LG curved wide screens and get rid of my 20 year old 30" Cinema Display
32" Apple monitors are so expensive... that going LG or whatever non-Apple became obvious |

My advice would be to get a regular panel, not a curved one. Go and try one in person. IMHO they suffer from so many inconsistencies across the image. They’re really unpleasant to look at. I won’t even go into the curvature affecting audio reflections. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Moving to Mac Studio Ultra... first version of a new line.
I hear you guys about the curved thing
Also, @massivekerry, I guess you are talking about that 4K LG Screen Do you think that the 3840x2160 resolution of that 32" screen is great for Protools ? I have seen many users reporting bad experience with 4k/5K that I was staying away from those... |

Re: Moving to Mac Studio Ultra... first version of a new line.
I have been using 3440x1440 (yes, movie aspect ratio) and all I can say the wider the better -- gives plenty of faders in mix window.

Or are you referring to some other issue with 4/5K monitors? |
