If absolutely nothing else was changed(no Windows updates, all external devices are on the exact same ports, etc), did you download and install the latest 003 driver? With PT9, all drivers are a separate install.

try using the legacy drivers for your firewire card as described in the optimization guide.

there seems to be a bit of consensus that as of 9.0.2 legacy drivers seem to cause more problems than they solve but try them out. switch back if it starts dropping your 003 when you reboot.

this might not work, but if it's coming to hardware failure, may as well try something. how about trying a different FW cable? it may have broken at the same time as you updated. a coincidence.

003 will not enter utility mode. New firewire cable does nothing. Screen of 003 still lights up, but nothing shows... ugh

Try this at your own risk

How do I reset the firmware on 003?

There is a way to force a 003 or 003 Rack into a "Load Firmware" mode, then you can launch Pro Tools and it will prompt you for the firmware update.

To force this mode (same on 003 and 003R):

With the unit off hold down 'Aux In->7/8' and the 'Mute' button (next to the Monitor knob), and then turn on the power to the unit. On 003 you'll see the display say "Load Firmware" and the MIDI Lights (In, Out1, Out2) will all start flashing. The MIDI lights flashing is the only indication on the 003 Rack that the unit is in this mode.

Once it is in this mode, launch Pro Tools, and you will see the message, "003 has firmware version x.xx, do you want to update..." Click the Update button to upload the 003 firmware.

The only thing I could advise is testing this on another computer, to see if it's actually the 003 or not.

If it is, you can call tech support for repair info (no ASC needed - just press '3' when calling...).

Angry Re: PT 9.0.2 appears to have killed my 003

grrr....... Nobody seems to believe the upgrade killed my 003. It was a bizarre coincidence..... I have babied my 003. The protective plastic on the led screen is still on it, it has onlt been moved once, in its original box and packing material, including the plastic bag it was wrapped in, and now it is on its way via ups to a service center, in said original box. I'm not a happy camper.
