Usually I can work around this issue. Last night was a tough one for me. The only workaround on this session that would keep the client here was a competitors DAW.

I dread coming to the DUC periodically to check on this issue. I got PT in 2004, and read of the issue then, but didn't suffer under 6.4, with the exception of perhaps two times. I built two identical machines, one for me and one for my colleague. We have the same machines as back then, and we're both at 7.1, but I have the problem and he doesn't.

Then the problem began for me in 6.7.

I began to suspect the Quicktime upgrade (degrade) and its stuttering, and eventually reinstalled the old Quicktime, which helped a little. This problem is so widespread across platforms, versions and hardware that I doubt there will be a solution, and that is confirmed every time I check on it.

This problem is caused essentially by having the computer powered up and PT running. I'd hate to be responsible for fixing a problem like that.

When this buzzkill rears its ugly head, the only solution I've come up with is to hold down the talkback button so the artist can hear the soothing sonic of the spacebar, number 3, F12, or HUI controller clicking with a soft reverb tail...

Since installing PT8 this has gone from an annoyance to a nightmare. PT8 has features we would like to keep but for the first time I’m really questioning our faith that clients will stand for much more of this.

Perhaps we could share info on 3rd party plug-ins to see if there is a common thread here.

As a side note, when this is happening, open up your Region List and, if you're in Record and trying to record, see if there is a new Region created in the Region List every time you hit "3" or "F12". I have found that occasionally instead of just the cursor in place I will have inadvertently created a very tiny highlighted region with the cursor and the record head or the play head moves and stops the length of the highlight. Just clicking the Cursor into place obvioulsy gets rid of that. I'm not saying by any means that this is the issue, I'm just saying it may be the case a very, very small fraction of the time.

At this time I would like to extend an open invitation to any or all of the PT programmers to come down to my studio here in LA. I will personally pick you up at the airport and let you play with my system all day if you can't duplicate this problem in house. There will be food, girls and beer if you are so inclined.
