Default Plug-In Automation \"Auto\" dialog box is empty.

When I want to automate a plug-in I open the desired plug-in then I hit the "auto" button right next to the "safe" button. This brings up the window that lets you add the particular knobs that you want to automate. The problem I'm having is that there is nothing to choose from. The box on the left side of the window is completely empty. This is the case on my digidesign and waves plug-ins but not my Antares.
