Unable to import video
Hello, I've been using Pro Tools for about 4 years now. I have a 2.53 Ghz mid 2009 MB Pro with 2 gigs of RAM. I know this issue has been discussed before but I have not found a solution.
When I first import my .Mov file into PT I got an error message saying "unable to link file due to missing codec". That message no longer appears but my video is just a black screen with the extracted audio. This is very frustrating. If anyone know a fix for this that would be great. I do not use Avid Media Composer if that makes a difference... Thanks Joe |

Re: Unable to import video
.Mov is just a container type and is meaningless, open in QuickTime Player and use Inspector to get the real information on Codec

Re: Unable to import video
Try exporting the video to Pro Res 422 in quicktime if you have quicktime 7 pro that is. Then you should be able to import.

Re: Unable to import video
If it's not a codec that Quicktime can natively read it won't open. If it's an DNxHD codec you need to download it from Avid. I've had trouble like this before when clients delivered XDCAM stuff to me.

Re: Unable to import video
I don't know which version of PT's you are using, but in some of the earlier builds of PT11 there was an issue with certain pro res files, where they would display as blank frames. Even my own transcodings from Compressor. At the time my workaround was using PT10, which had no issues or if i had the time transcode to DNxHD 36, which would work.
This might also be irrelevant to the issue, but if nothing else works, try relinking the video file from workspace. I have had the "... missing codec" pop up at times if I've moved the video file to another location between sessions.

Re: Unable to import video
I tried importing from the workspace and no luck. I don't have Quicktime 7 but the video itself is a H.264 I re-installed PT10 to try importing it in there but I have the latest version of OS X and I do not want to go through the task of reverting back to Mavericks and risk losing all my data.
Is this a question of RAM? I feel like I should be able to import a video file no problem... |

Re: Unable to import video
convert that POS h.264 to something usable http://www.squared5.com/
photo-JPEG or DNxHD36 would be my choices

Re: Unable to import video
Your MBP is a Core 2 Duo (like on of mine). Won't work with video, audio seems to be fine.
Video really needs i7 for lappys. |
