Will is correct. It's all in the manual.

I'm a fan of HEAT and Plugin Alliance's Vertigo VSM3 also, very versatile plugin. And above all, both AAX DSP.

Vertigo VSM3 is nice but I've always found I needed to set it really low where the controls don't have much resolution. Black Box is really good but time consuming to set up so I'd only use it on busses.

Well, yes - that's what it says, but... I would only call it "tape-like" in the broadest sense of the word. Like I said, I like HEAT, but it's more of an "analog gear" vibe - doesn't really sound anything like a real tape machine to me...

Default AAX-DSP analog/tape/console emulation?

Really fan of bx_console. Just nice channel strip with beautyfull eq and the way it models subtle changes of channel tolerances is great. Not so hungry on the dsp side.

I wish it had a different mode for "subtle"

The question is which tape machine and which tape!

I helped out finding a good condition, totally unmodified Ampex 351 to use for the Waves Kramer tape plug-in. Former United/Western/RCA Victor/Sunset Sound/Elektra Records engineer John Haeny supplied several rolls of Scotch 201 and 206/7 late '60s recording tape.

I was shocked by how accurate the plug-in is yet people often describe it as being not very good. Dave Amels' ReelTape sounds quite different because it's decade newer machines using two decades more modern tape. Other popular tape models are of products yet another decade more modern.

Yes, it shouldn't be surprising that there had been some progress!

My experience with virtually all such DSP models has been that in most cases more than one in series becomes a pretty big step down and you really need to compare several to find one that works well.

Waves is not AAX-DSP

True but Reel Tape is! My point was I suspect all are accurate but the machines and tapes modeled are different.

Yeah, exactly! I mean, that plug doesn't sound bad to me, we had a bunch of those machines over at Universal - I just never liked them that much. Sometimes the nostalgia is better than the reality... Anyway, more of an ATR guy myself... I'll check out Reel Tape.
