Default really struggling

I am using a firewire 1814 with windows xp, centrino laptop and pro tools m powered, just upgraded to 7. Basically when I start my M box 1814 up it works fine, I can access the software controller no problem. Once I start pro tools the 1814 software controller panel freezes after a while and it says not responding. No audio then gets to protools, any help[ is greatly appreciated.

Do you have any other firewire devices running? Do you get a hard freeze where you have to reset your computer?

Check the event log for errors. Go to Start>Run and enter "eventvwr" then let us know if you see any "System" or "Application" errors marked around the time that the freeze occurred. Post the text from those errors in the log.

Same problem here, exactly. Also with a Centrino laptop. Freezes even when booting a completely clean system without my external FW hard drive attached. I can get up to two or three minutes of operation sometimes before this happens.

Are you using an onboard FW port? Which laptop are you using? I fixed some problems, including one that sounds very much like yours, by using an external Cardbus firewire adapter and turning off the onboard FW port.
