Is the newer Mac Pro worth it?
Hey guys, currently looking at setting up a new Pro Tools 12 Native System. I've already got the interface (Apogee Quartet) and just need to grab the computer now.
Currently debating between a 6-core Mac Pro vs a quad-core 27" iMac. Both at 32GB ram. Down the road there might be some work with final cut pro involved which is why I'm looking at getting the Mac Pro. However I'm very open to the thoughts and opinions of you guys! |

Would say Mac Pro 6 Core but if you opt for the iMac make 10000% sure yu do NOT get a fusion drive with it as they seem to come with those quite often,
Also that iMac is i7 processor and if not then Mac Pro all day long.

I just feel more comfortable with the Mac Pro using a "true desktop processor" but I wanted to get some feedback. |

Re: Is the newer Mac Pro worth it?
Thats always a smart thing to do before buying a expensive product
We have used the new Mac Pro 6 Core for a year now and love it a lot. 24GB as that was max at that time from the Mac Store but haven't felt the need for more even though we run VI galore so 32GB should be great with that computer. and SSD drives only and it smokes our macbook pros by a country mile. We have Yosemite on that one so El Cap might run differently but doubt that.

Another thing to consider is that the Trashcan is dead silent, but once you try to use your iMac (or in my case MBP) to the limit, you will suffer from annoying fan noise.

LOL Same here. The MBP's sounds like they will explode any second when taxed high on the CPU but the nMP is nowhere near that noisy.

You're talking about the newer thin iMac? I have the one before they changed (still has the internal optical drive) and it's quiet as a church mouse. The external drives on read/writes I have are far noisier than the iMac.
