Default Tips for External Hard/Drive???

Hey guys,

I am getting a MacBook 2.0ghz 80 gb hard drive with 2gb of Ram. I want some advice on which external hard drive I should get to record too. I obviously want a firewire ext. h/d and I would like it to be around 200 bucks if possible. I would also like it to be at least 250 gb, better if closer to 400-500 gb. circuit city (where i work part time) has a 500gb hardrive for $179, but it is only USB...any advice on a really good external would be great!

I suggest looking at the Firewire recommended drive specs at the Digidesign website.
I found them in Support>Support Search and did a search for FireWire hard drives. For getting the best performance with your system I think this would be the best place to start. I added an internal Audio drive and bought one listed as a Digidesign recommended drive. My system works great. Also from what I have read a Firewire uses less CPU resources then a USB external drive.

I've had very good luck with the Lacie product line. You can get them with all 3 connections.
USB 2.0 - Firewire 400 and Firewire 800

since you have some tech savvy working at CC.. you may want to
consider buying a SATA HD drive by itself and separately purchase
an external FW case.

They are easy to put together and you are insured to get the correct
chipset on the external case interface. I got a sweet deal (Rebates!) on an HD
at compusa and bought an external FW case from Other World Computing..

you may save a few bucks building it yourself rather than buying
a pre-assembled external drive.
