Default Problem with H/W Buffer Size on new computer! :(

Hi there,

I'm new to these forums so I hope I am posting in the correct place. I have used pro tools 6.4 le with my original M-box for years on my old computer which as recently died (Windows xp pro). On my new computer it loads fine, and all looks good, but when I even have one track playing in a session with no plug ins it says "The operating system held off interrupts for too long. If this occurs often, try increasing the "H/W Buffer Size" in the Playback Engine Dialog. (-9093)". However the actual cpu usage when pro tools is being used and one track is playing is 2%! I have spent hours googling this problem, and trying to find out if my new computer is for some reason not compatible, but I have not been able to find anything. I have the computer info below. I would really like to be back up and running. Can anyone help???:

asus m51a
intel core due t6400 processor 2ghz
3 gigs of memory
Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset
Windows xp pro, service pack 3.

Ok, well I have my details below. I have tried many things including installing a friends version of pro tools 8 le, but the same thing happens (I currently have 6.4 le, with the original mbox). I have also made sure to install the latest pace drivers etc. I have also tried using an external lacie drive to see if the sessions worked any better but no luck. Again, my old computers had no problems with pro tools. I would really like to get to the bottom of this. Sandra Report is below, and thank you for your replies:

Default Re: Problem with H/W Buffer Size on new computer! :(

I stopped reading near the top...

Problems so far:

You need more than one HD. One for OS another for recording to.
Wireless NIC needs to be disabled whilst running PT
On-board graphics are no good...
XP SP3, IE8 causes problems for some people.
Mis-matched RAM has caused problems for some folks.
etc...

There seem to be a lot of niggly things that could cause problems by themselves, and combined may be the culprit.

Probably not what you want to hear, but have you considered building a recording computer? Look for components that have been used and tested by other members here and build something that you know will work. With the advent of i7's you will probably see good used Q6600 systems going for cheap right now.

You need more than one HD. One for OS another for recording to. Yes
Wireless NIC needs to be disabled whilst running PT Yes
On-board graphics are no good...unless its a laptop(but may still be a problem)
XP SP3, IE8 causes problems for some people. Yes
Mis-matched RAM has caused problems for some folks. agreed

6.4 will only work if you install cs6 AND cs9. The second drive you need for recording must be 7200 RPM and NOT a USB drive. eSATA and firewire for external and firewire needs a compatible firewire port or card in the laptop, AND an Oxford chipset in the drive.
