Default Load PT9 standalone / without hardware

I have my iLok, and it works fine with the hardware in.

When I load PT9 without the hardware, it prompts: "Unable to locate hardware. Make sure your hardware is connected and turned on. Click OK when the hardware is ready"

Being able to load standalone was the main reason I upgraded to PT9..

Plz help

The idea is not that it can be used without any hardware, but that it can be used without Avid hardware. If your computer has a soundcard that can see ASIO devices, you can use ASIO4ALL, as stated in the documentation. However, it has caused system problems for some users. So it's kind of a crap shoot.

Yeah. Kind of like using WordPerfect without a display.

From Avid's site:

The Next Generation of Pro Audio Production
Open yourself to the possibilities. Pro Tools 9 redefines the world’s most popular, most advanced music and audio production platform with a completely re-architected, open version of Pro Tools software, giving you what you asked for—and so much more.

Work with an audio interface—or without. Create bigger, better-sounding mixes with more tracks, Automatic Delay Compensation, and other pro features included as standard. Open your workflow to projects created in other audio and video software—and to the entire Avid Artist Series and Pro Series (formerly Euphonix) console/controller line. With Pro Tools 9, you can compose, record, sequence, edit, and mix the way you want—in more ways than ever.

AND

Work the way you want

Get the flexibility of using Pro Tools 9 with your favorite Avid audio interface or third-party Core Audio- or ASIO-compatible interface—or use Pro Tools 9 completely standalone† for easy on-the-go creation.

✝ Pro Tools on Windows requires the presence of an ASIO-compatible soundcard.

Do you have an ASIO-compatible sound card?

Thanks David -

Say I got a sound card that can see ASIO devices, would PT9 recognize this with no further action/input needed on my end for it to load?

Because I've been looking a little bit, under what subtitle in the documentation (I assume "Pro Tools Software Installation Guide"?) is the issue of loading PT9 standalone discussed?

Hmm. Yeah, OK, Avid's site is still a bit of a bear to find things on at will. What you need to do is google "asio4all" and choose one of the myriad dload sites for it. It's a driver that is intended to serve any compatible device for which no specific driver has been written.

cartez49,

What motherboard and sound device are you currently using for Windows sounds?

Hi Tom -

I am trying to run standalone on my Dell Latitude D830 laptop. Kind of old, but I have 4GB ram, Intel Core2 Duo @2.2Ghz, Windows 7 (x64), SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook card. I would assume it would be ASIO compatible.

I guess my next step is to find and download the appropriate ASIO4ALL driver

Thanks all

I set up a RAIN Computer laptop with a Blue Icicle and PT9 under Windows 7 today using the ASIO4ALL driver and it worked like a charm. Couple of things:

a) the Icicle is input only, so you have to use the built-in audio for output, the ASIO4ALL control panel does not make it immediately obvious how to set this, so it took a little finagling and some restarts to get it all rocking.

b) Make sure you download the PT9 update.

Is there a PT9 update? "Check for Updates..." in the Help tab returns I am up to date (Version 9.0.0 in loading)

Anything you can recommend about which ASIO4ALL to download? all the same?
