S/PDIF Output w/003

When I route my session output to S/PDIF (RCA) my output(monitor) control on my 003 does not work. My documents indicate the S/PDIF output channels always mirror main outs 1 & 2., therefore, I should be able to control volume from my 003... any ideas

No, the monitor control does not affect the level on any digital buss.

Yep, that was a disappointment when I got my 003 that I had no control over the volume to my digial monitors using the S/PDIF out, and there doesn't seem to be any kind of affodable digital master volume control available.

Think about it. If the monitor knob controlled the level of your stereo mix bus, when you turned it down, your mix would be quieter and lower res. You'd be forced to listen to all your mixes at full volume to get proper mix down level. That would make PT pretty much unusable.

thanks - I guess I'll stop trying. So do you just control the volume via speaker output while the 003 output is cranked? Seems a little reckless.

i got a lavry da10 used for a good price. i know you probably don't want to spend any money, but that's about the only answer i got.

The Presonus Central station works fine for this(and does a lot of other cool stuff as well)

Yes, Central Station is a good unit if you have multiple sources to switch between, like a CD player, a Masterlink, etc. What is the S/PDIF feeding?

The S/PDIF is typically like a 2-track output on a mixer. It IS designed to be that way. When you are doing a mix on a larger board the 2-track would obviously go to your mastering machine, so you can make adjustments on the board a constant signal gets recorded. Although we can do all of that on a $5 mouse, the concept remains the same.
