Help w/ Crash on Launch in 6.9.3r2

Hi, if someone can please give me some new troubleshooting tips I'd greatly appreciate it. I oversee and troubleshoot a mobile studio. Everything was working fine in the room that has a PT HD 2 system running 6.9.3r2 on a dual 2.7ghz G5 running OS 10.4.3. The G5 has 6gb RAM and an nVidia 6800 Ultra video card. There are 2 192 i/os both w/ digital expansion and a sync i/o on the system and a Unitor8 as well. Like I said, this system has been rock solid for a long time. A few days ago the engineers called me and reported that PT now crashes immediately on launch. They do not even see the splash screen or any of the system loading info the splash screen would contain. Just an immediate crash on launch. They swear that nothing has been changed in the computer, nothing new installed or reconfigured; this crash has just occured out of the blue.

So far I have had them trash all preferences. Repair disk permissions. And when that didn't work I had them do a Clean Uninstall of PT, then reinstall (using the 6.7 disc, then the 6.9 web update, then the 6.9.3r2 web update). It still crashes immediately on launch.

I should mention that we also run Logic Pro 7.1 on this computer using the HD hardware and interfaces. Logic still launches and runs as normal, except that the digital outputs of the 192 (the AES enclosure which I had setup as the main 2trk output) apparently stopped functioning around the same time that the PT crash started occurring. All other (analog) ins/outs work in Logic and the TDM plugins work fine in Logic as well.

If you can suggest other troubleshooting ideas I would greatly appreciate the tips.

I'll just go over what i have done in this situation...


Trash all DAE prefs/Pro tools prefs and Digi prefs from the Mack HD/user/library/preferences. Make sure you get them all!

Trash all Digi database files from all hard drive partitions! and the database folder inside the digidesign folder library/application support/digidesign.

Empty trash and re-boot the mac.

Using your install CD and select clean-uninstall.
Re-boot mac and repair disk permisions.

Fresh install of PT from your CD then web updates etc.

Don't boot PT but re-boot the mac.

repair disk permissions again.

Now go to the plugins folder mack HD/library/apps support/digidesign/plugins...
Remove all plugins except Digi-rack plugs and the stereo mixer plug. (now all third party and optional extra plugs should be removed and placed into the unused plugins folder or create a folder to store these plugins into!!)

Now see if PT will boot with just the basic plug-in set.

If yes then place the extra plugins back into the folder a few at a time and see how you go etc.
