I seem to think the most valid reason for one hating pro tools would be that it only works with a Digidesign interface. Most people I work with want more options available to them. Purchasing a dedicated interface, just to use pro tools can be an expensive proposition. Not so sure it's an age factor.

I would also guess that a lot of them started with, or are still using crack versions of cubase, etc... and that´s something that they can´t do with protools..

It's quite easy to be put off by an LE system. No latency compensation, it's not an expandable system due to incompatibility with UAD or Powercore cards, the 002R power harness is liable to break down, not to mention the whole PC compatibility minefield, and it doesn't even ship with a decent reverb. In some ways it's got less to offer than most of the rival packages.

they hate PT because it has a serious interface, and it's "hard" to manage if you
dot't know noting about routing, nothing about using sends inseted of inserts,
beacuse there are no cool meters, no cool eqs, no cool windows popping up everywhere...

ok, I was joking, more or less.

I think that if you use a lot midi and virtual instruments is quite
natural to love cubase and hate PT.

Some times it happens to me. I'm and ex-cubase user and sometimes I do
really hate PT and his lack of common features like delay compensation,
like mutichannel midi traks and the ex-lack of multichannl plug-in support.

How can they hate it if they've never even used it?

I'm a kid and use it most everyday

Real music isnt recorded with virtual instruments. By all means use whichever platform you want but PT is the weapon of choice for me.

Also about upgrades, You can infact use an UAD-1 card with the fxpansion wrapper. As well as a lot of your vst plugins.

Thanks

Also, PT LE requires an Digidesign interface to be attached but that doesnt prohibit the use of external converters through ADAT.

This does not cover HD systems. You can run an HD system off an Apogee converter if you have the card to connect it straight to your HD Process.

Thanks

Is there a latency issue using a UAD-1 card on Pro Tools LE?

Young people hate Pro Tools for many reasons:

1. They recognize Digi's market tactics. Young people know that they don't need an HD system to do what they want.
2. This forum is great for info and tech support, but is very narrow minded musically (for example, consider the stupid comment made above "Real music isn't recorded with virtual instruments.")
3. Pro Tools is for old people. Think about the young musicians you know...how many of them use Pro Tools? (Digi knows they have problems reaching young people...look at their ads, all you see are young people.)
4. Pro Tools isn't rock 'n roll. Pro Tools is your dad telling you that you don't get certain features because you haven't earned them yet.

Quite simply,

Kids hate establishment and give it the finger, > Pro Tools has become very much the tool of the establishment, i.e. Professional Music makers > Therefore they think they Hate Protools because they hate the establishment.......

My .02c worth.
