Default Q for i7 Quad Users

Guys

Just wondering how many simultaneous tracks you can record at 64 or 128 buffer?

The main reason I upgraded was to hopefully track a full band at low buffer sizes, and hopefully run a couple of VIs and verbs at the same time.
But I'm only able to do a couple of tracks.

What should I reasonably be expecting to get?

You must have other problems.

I do that all the time with my old AMD single core 3500 at a 64 buffer.

Yeah, I know. But I need specific help. I can build a computer and get it running, but half the technical language in that thread goes over my head.

My system is very simillar to yours Albee.
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R, Intel i7 920, 6 gig Corsair 1333 DDR3 (triple channel kit). Don't recall exactly what the video card is.
Can you tell me what you did in your bios setup? I changed some RAM figures in there to match my RAM, but I don't really know if I did it right.

Just skimming further through that thread....
There's plenty of "I did this", but I need specifics on how it was done.

If anyone can help me out I'll be forever in your debt.

Sounds like a drive issue to me. Are you using a new drive? Is it SATA or IDE? Do you have another drive to record to to check it out. I had this problem but narrowed it down to a bad SEAGATE drive. It would hold info but not write fast enough or Playback fast enough. Eventually it died.

With my i7 system (which is exactly the same as yours only with 3 gigs of ram) I can record at a buffer of 64 all day long, as many tracks as I like. That is what leads me to believe that it is a drive issue.

Thanks Kris, I'll try recording to the backup drive and see what happens.

Hey, can you give me specifics on what you changed in the bios?

It's not the drive.
Tried 3 different drives, including a brand new Seagate Baracuda.
