Default Re: How to unsubstantiate Chain Mode?

I cannot route a MIDI track into Superior Drummer because the track is in "Chain Mode". Spent an hour trying to figure it out, now I am going back to PT 2023.12 so I can continue to work.

Is there a way to completely disable this behavior?

Such destructive features should be default to DISABLED

Explained in post 7. Same for all VIs...

"To do this if you're using an instrument track, you'll need enable the "Instruments" view in edit window views. This allows you to see MIDI routing for instrument tracks. Then on the instrument track change the MIDI output to Individual Target Channel 1 for the corresponding plugin you've loaded onto that instrument track. Now you are out of Chain Mode. Let me know if that works for you :)"

Doesn't work.
Individual targets are greyed out because track is in chain mode.

I somehow got it to work.

1 - I changed the midi input to the instrument track from ALL to Predefined -> Remote LS port 1 -> channel 1.

2 - I made sure the MIDI-track was set to output none.

3 - On the midi output on the instrument track, the individual targets were no longer greyed out.

Because that's how it works There should be documentation explaining all of this course.

Has anyone thought of just going back to the old way with the VI on an aux track with MIDI tracks routed to it? I haven't tested but it seems this would sidestep the chain mode that's on instrument tracks.

I'm still having trouble undoing Chain Mode.
After viewing the Instrument panel, and clicking on the "Chain In" button, I am not allowed to select individual targets because:

n/a because track is in Chain Mode

This is what I'm trying to turn off (so I can get back to making music) but I don't see a "Chain Mode" setting for the track.

This was a BAD idea to make this the default for new tracks.

Easier to help if you provide more info on your routing. There's also a way to undo it from my testing :)

Default Re: How to unsubstantiate Chain Mode?

My workflow is simple.
I create a MIDI track, then an instrument track and add something like Sampletank or Superior Drummer. Previously I would select the plug-in in the output selector of the MIDI channel.
Now, when I select Sampletank from the MIDI channel I get "MIDI Chain -> Chain In" and the Individual Targets below is grayed-out.
I find that with MIDI Chain in play I do get sound, so that's good.

I will read up on MIDI Chain in the 2024.3 release notes - it was too much to do in the middle of a session.

Thanks, Paul
