Default UA 1176LN connection

I just got a UA 1176LN compressor unit to use with my rig, this is my first compressor hardware unit since I have been using plugins for years. As far as connection goes what you guys recommend? Connect it as hardware insert or Mic > Pre amp > Comp > Converters? If I use the last option I won't have this compressor available for future mixing works, or is there a way to have it connected and take advantage in both situations?

Thanks for any suggestions

Hi,

A patchbay is the way to go! then you can use it pre converters when recording into pro tools and then patch it in to use it as an insert during mixdown. this is how i use my outboard comps.

you must use the inserts with matching inputs and outputs during mixdown to make use of the delay compensation.

You may have to load the output with a 600 ohm resistor for the meter and output level to be accurate unless you are interfacing with old style equipment that is designed around 600 ohms (I have some).
