Default HD I/O - multiple generations?

I'm looking at buying a used HDX card and separately a used HD I/O 8x8x8.
I'm trying to work out if there have been multiple generations of the HD I/O 8x8x8 and if so, how to identifiy them and what the specs are.
I've done a google search of DUC but haven't found anything yet, any clues please?

Basically two generations; the current grey Avid HD interfaces (that can have any combination of i/o cards) and the legacy blue DigiDesign interfaces (that are more picky about i/o cards and some boxes are designed to be as is without flexibility). Blue and grey chassis can be combined in a system, but blue cards do not fit in grey chassis and vice versa.

Both blue and grey work just fine, but only grey are supported.

No problem.

The biggest practical difference between these two is legacy blue chassis have the bigger original DigiLink connector (that connects directly to HD cards) whereas current grey chassis have the smaller mini DigiLink connector. (that connects directly to HDN/HDX). The two are however electrically compatible and all you need is a passive adapter to mix and match.
