Default Optimizing ProTools for new MacBook Pro

So it was inevitable, my old MacBook died and it was time to replace it. I by a beautiful brand new MacBook Pro 2.4GHz 8 core I9, 32GB of ram, etc., should be great right? NOT A CHANCE!!!!

I was running Protools Ver. 2018.8.1 on the old 2014 vintage MacBook and with absolutely no changes to the OS or Protools the thing rocked, I was easily able to record at least 24 tracks with no trouble at all using an Audinate DVS while chasing incoming timecode from Lockstep.

Now the new MacBook that I'm thinking is really going to kill is a total PIG!!! The beachball is in my face all of the time, which I never even saw on the old computer and when I took it out on a job the other day it was choking while attempting to record just 10 tracks. The setup that I'm using is exactly the same, recording to an external G Technology 2TB drive via a 3 port USB hub. Also besides the beachball coming up all of the time I got a few drive too slow warnings.

So I'm not sure what the maximum track count for a setup like this should be but I know it's not 10 tracks. Oh and by the way the new computer is running Big Sur 11.3.1 and I did have to buy a new version of Protools, I'm currently running Ver. 2021.7.0 because my old version wasn't compatible with Big Sur.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you tried plugging the drive directly into the computer, bypassing the hub?

Make sure you do all the optimizations here:
