Default Fat32 and mac (?)

I currently have a Lacie external hard drive for storing and recording. It came as Fat32 formatted. Is that ok ? (it seems to do fine) How will it be different if I format it with my mac ? And will my pc be able to read it then ?

What is the ideal way to set up your hard drive for protools on mac ? (and why ?)

You cannot use a FAT32 formatted drive with Pro Tools on a Mac. You need to reformat it as HFS+. You could use it as FAT32 as a 'transfer' drive - you can copy data to and from the drive, but you cannot record or play back from it. The PC would be able to read a FAT32 drive or you could use an application called MacDrive to read data from an HFS+ volume on your PC.
