if you only ever use your own system, then it doesn't matter. but if you use multiple systems (or you run a facility where multiple engineers use the same systems), then let's have the user-assignable key commands save-able with the session. You bring your unique layout with you, wherever you go. Simple.

I hate. HATE the E key (whatever that zoom toggle thing is). Totally meaningless. Maybe someone will hip me to a great use for it.

I use the E key all the time. I make sure to set the parameters I want, like the size and to not change the track view (from volume to waveform, etc...)

I typically have 150 tracks in a session and I keep them in mini or small size most of the time. the E key is an easy way to dive into a selection, usually for fine-tuning an automation graph or removing a click. Don't mess with my E key!

While we're in this thread, is it me, or has the default for "automation follows edit" been changed to "off"?!? Never before have I had issues with this, but in the past month, I have been burned by doing a conform only to have my mix completely unwound by automation not following and having to start over. Anyone else noticed this?

It's annoying, I agree. The trick is to put a very short, edit locked region group at the very beginning of the session across all tracks. Then PT will present a pop-up when hitting Y, asking you to over-write this group and you can hit cancel

It's VERY useful, don't you ever kill it, Avid.

And what is "Y" even supposed to accomplish? It's simply a PITA and way too close to zooming controls.
Same with Loop Trim. Annoying.
