Mixing for the internet
Now I know this has been covered before here, but I'm working on a short film internet series and I wanted to get some input from some people that had a little more experience than me mixing for online content. Generally speaking, do you mix the same for the internet that you do for broadcast? Does it depend on the format (ie, real, windows media, quicktime)?
I've heard that over-compression is bad and the EQ generally needs less high-end, but does anyone have a set a guidelines that they generally like to follow? Thanks. |

Re: Mixing for the internet
You can mix alot hotter for online tha broadcast. Technically you can mix peaks up to 0db but I personally like to peak it out at -4db. I've been able to get better resultes with QT based files rather than Windows Media formats.

Re: Mixing for the internet
When mixing for online, be sure to test the encoding process at the levels you're working with. If you mix in stereo and are encoding to mono, some encoders will sum the L and R, adding 6 dB to anything panned center. Test and set your peak level accordingly.
