A/B comparison right out of the box - TDM and LE

I'm looking for someone to tell me how the 001 or 002 compares to a tdm mix 24 core system in sound quality ONLY. I know the tdm has more processor power and other features that the LE systems have but my concern is the quality of sound with both units straight out of the box...no high end pres or converters just plain digi products as they come out of the wrapper. I went to the TDM section of this forum but found little response at all to my questions...I hope someone here can shed some light...I want to upgrade to a system that gives me more punch from the start. The HD system is out of the question but I can get into a Mix 24 plus. I want the bass gtr to sound like I'm sitting next to the amp and I want the drums to sound like drums. I don't need answers like " its' all in the pres or the converters or the mics...I know that already but for the money involved in a good TDM system there better be more than just more processing power for plug-ins involed...Please, anyone care to jump into this?

002 and even 001 have better converters than mixplus.
001 pre's dont sound great, i dont think they sound bad...but i dont use them very much.
many will say the 888's converters are bested by the LE systems of today...and in the 001's case, yesterday.

mix and mix+ has been shelved, same with the 001
superceded with no software support after ver.6.4

TDM performs better, but the converters in the 888's arent as good as in the LE systems. the 888's used with the pci card are selling for around 1300 bucks used, i would say go with an LE system...

The major difference is Processing power, the ability to add as much
as needed has always been the object that has made PT the standard.


The secondary is Beat Detective, various TDM Plug-ins, more than 32 voice track count
and surround capability.

The qaulity of the pre's on the 002's are better than the Mix pre's.

So if you need the secondary list, then LE isn't for you.

MIX < LE out of Box sound.

I personally disagree. There is a very famous band now that before they were famous, used a MIX system and there early recordings sounded fantastic. I hear LE recordings and they sound good, but I can tell a difference. They used a 888/24 I/O and there mixes sounded so full and big, and very clean and clear.

it's not what you have, it's how you use it

but to track drums, you'll most likely need 2 888's...i almost always have between 12 and 16 mics on a kit, and although i often wont use certain tracks, you really dont want to limit yourself.
