PTLE 7.1 MIDI Studio WinXP
Hi,
I'd like to set up my instruments in the MIDI Studio in my PTLE 7.1 system, but the pull-down options don't include my Roland TD-20 drum kit (it includes TD-7 and TD-10, but not TD-20). Is there a way to manually specify "Roland TD-20" or "TD-20 Drums" in MIDI Studio so that I end up with a corresponding selectable MIDI input/output on MIDI tracks? Looks like you can type in your instrument name in PTLE on MAc, but not in WinXP, or am I missing something here? Thanks, Kevin |

I don't have an answer but I'd like to add to the question. The Korg triton is in the MIDI studio setup but what do you do when your kits are not the same due to korg expansion cards?

Guys, use spkguitar's .middev file generation and there is also a couple of links that might provide you with .midnam files for your respective devices.

Re: PTLE 7.1 MIDI Studio WinXP
Cool, can I create an instrument for Roland TD-10, and then go to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Digidesign\MIDI Devices , find the .middev file and edit the XML to create one for TD-20? What's the difference between .middev and .midname files? Do I need to modify two files or one? Thanks, Kevin |

Re: PTLE 7.1 MIDI Studio WinXP
Hi Kevin
It would be easier to use the link provided to create the .middev file. .middev could be view as device information. .midnam gives you the ability to Patch Select/Program Change within Pro Tools. If you are wanting to Patch Select within Pro Tools, you'll need to find the .midnam file for the Roland TD-20, but in some cases and often out of lack of available .midnam files for this device, it would be just as easy to use the interface directly for Patch selection. None of this is really useful, it's just makes things a little bit more convenient for identification purposes and useless you change your Ports frequently, you soon come to realize what device is connected to what Port. However, if your running a 10 Port Interface, this could become a little confusing and hence the MIDI track I/O ID would be quite helpful. filosofem
