Default 16 tracks of midi

I have a yamaha motif es 6 and i have it hooked up to pt le 7.3.1. i made 16 tracks of midi to record all at the same time by setting up each midi track for a specific channel thru the keyboard. All the midi data recorded fine to pro tools. now when i'm trying to turn the midi data into audio tracks pro tools wont let me bus them out to audio.I set up the midi track to play to a aux track and i hear the sounds, but when i bus the aux track out to a audio track, the sound goes dead and i can't hear nothing not even the meter registering. do you have to track a beat out one track at a time or can you do 16 at once and how do you get the audio out from the midi??? Please help. I spend almost a hour a beat to track out and i was told tracking out a beat should take no more than twenty minutes!!!!

Well, what's your sound source(s)? You can't just "turn MIDI data into audio". You send MIDI data to a sound generator (synth/VI), and record the audio outputs from the synth/VI on audio tracks.

Yes, it should, ummm... a couple of questions though, are you wanting to record these MIDI tracks in isolation, in other words, if your Motif supports only Left and Right Audio Outputs, you'll need to print these tracks one by one, otherwise, all 16 Channels will be merged to one, unless, this is what you want?

Your setup should resemble something like this:

Hardware Configuration

*MIDI Out ES to MIDI In Digi
*MIDI Out Digi to MIDI In ES

*Audio Output ES (Left and Right) to Digi Input source 1 and 2

Pro Tools Configuration

*MIDI track(s) MIDI In set to All
*MIDI track(s) MIDI Out set to ES Channel 1-15

*Stereo AUX Input set to source 1 and 2 (ES Left and Right)
*Stereo AUX Output set to Bus 1 and 2

*Stereo Audio Track Input set to Bus 1 and 2

*Solo MIDI track 1 and AUX and Solo Safe (Ctrl Click) Audio track

*Check MIDI Thru

*Enable Input Only Monitoring

*Record arm Audio track

*Record.

By the way, what Digi hardware are you using and are you using the 'Line Level' Inputs?

Sorry, Stig, I'm a bit slow typing today.

...and JAH FYAH make sure you have 'Local' turned Off.

How to switch between Local settings will be described in your devices manual, but local in short means that it will disengage the sound generator enabling the keyboard to function independently.
