Problems connecting midi device
Hello,
I have an Axiom 49 midi controller connected to my pc via USB. I bought a mbox mini with ProTools and I'm having problems configuring my midi device. I added the device with inport port being USB, and output port being USB as well. When I go into peripherals, the only midi controller types I can add are Command8, HUI, and motormix. I don't have any of these. What should I use? Thanks. |

Re: Problems connecting midi device
You may be confusing MIDI Controller with MIDI Control Surface, and we really need to know which part you are having trouble with (or both).
As a MIDI controller to control virtual instruments, all you would need to do is select it as the MIDI input of your MIDI or Instrument track, and select the virtual instrument that you have inserted on the instrument or aux track as the MIDI output. Command8, HUI, and motormix, are all MIDI control surfaces and control the functionality of Pro Tools. Things like the transport (play, stop record, rewind) and the faders can be controlled by MIDI Control Surfaces. Pro Tools only recognizes certain specific MIDI Control surfaces, and the Axiom does not count as one of those. The Axiom has the capabilities of being a MIDI Control Surface, but not one of the ones Pro Tools recognizes exclusively. To use it as a MIDI control surface for Pro Tools, you would need to reprogram it to function like the JL Cooper MIDI control surface, and then load the JL Cooper MIDI control surface profile for Pro Tools to use.

Re: Problems connecting midi device
Gotcha,
Yeah I just want to hook up my keyboard controller to pro tools. I'm not trying to use the device as a control surface, just want to use it as an instrument. So I'll try it that way. watched a tutorial that used a c8 and it just kind of screwed up my thinking. Thanks. |

Re: Problems connecting midi device
I noticed you mentioned you selected the axiom as your output.
Just to clarify something; the Axiom can't be used as an "instrument" by itself. It generates no sound of it's own; it is just a controller. You will need some sort of MIDI sound module to create sound with it, either one of many virtual instrument plugins, or one of many hardware sound modules.
