Default CAD vs Audix vs Shure

I'm looking to buy a drum mic pack. The CAD's are much cheaper than the big name brands such as Audix or Shure. Are they that much better? I'm not sure what to look for when buying mics. Could someone please tutor me? hehe

see its good if u dont have a lot of money to start off and buy a
drum mic pack, but if u do have the money
your better off buying the mics seperatly
like
Shure SM57s, Snare/toms/guitar-amp
Sennhieser e604s, MD421s Toms/guiar/amp
Shure Beta 52/AKG D112/Audix D6 Kick/bass amp
AKG 414s Overheads/Room Mics/ Vocals/acoustic instruments
Neumann KM184s overheads/acoustic instruments

get the drum mic pack from shure that comes with
3 SM57s and a Beta 52 that would be a good start
then u would just need overheads
maybe a 4th 57 too

I hear Oktava makes good overheads and there 2 for 100 bucks
right now im using the MXL 603s's for overheads

All three companies make good mics for drums... but I still prefer spec'ing my own mic "package" rather than get them all from one company.

The Shure SM57 is a great all around workhorse, and makes a good snare mic, and an acceptable (though not stellar) tom mic. The Audix D2's are fabulous tom mics. And the Oktava MC012's are great on hi hats and overheads. As for kick, I prefer the E/V RE20, but the Shure Beta 52 is well regarded by a lot of people.

hey,

i have had very nice results with the Superlux drum mic package, although i use an SM57 to mic the top of the snare, and a mix of mics on the kick. it is slightly cheaper than the CAD's too. Honestly, if you're on a low budget i would get these, an SM57, and look into other possibilities for the kick. They are decent mics, and for toms sound great, snare has a very nice underside pickup, and the kick is pretty full as well. you can find these on ebay for usually about $129.00(i used buy it now ) and i highly suggest them.

i think a few others use them here, and despite the low cost(which seems to always imply low sound quality...)seem to like them....

as for overheads, i use the oktava mk012's and i've found they are incredible for the price i got them at(2 for 99). i think at guitar center they are now 99 dollars each, but if you do decide to go with these...beware, people have found that quality control is often a problem with these(although mine are terrific for a number of different applications).

there's my two cents.
have fun!

The Beta 52 and a 3 57's package is very useful. the 52 is a gret kick drum mic, and the 57 is the workhorse of the industry.

I'd save a few bucks and get something better than the octavia mics, their consistancy is very poor, and I know several people who had them and they crapped out.

The new shure SDC are supposed to be very nice. AKG 414's while expensive, are also a very versatile mic for the studio.

Sennheiser e609 silver series are excellent tom mics (as well as guitar) at $99 each.

My choice for overheads is a Shure VP-88 stereo mic.

instead of finding a drum mic package with like 6 mics
you should get a SM57 for snare something like a Beta 52 or D112 for kick
then a pair of overheads

just start off with 4 mics for now then as u save up money
u can buy more mics that are good instead of haveing a pack
of 6 mics that only have like 1 or 2 good mics in it
