Default deleting prefs and now Protools wont boot

As per my weekly routine, I just deleted all my prefs using the prefs and database helper. Now when I try to launch Protools 10.3.5, it crashes right at the DAE loading on the splash screen, no error message. Kind of strange. Fortunately I had the previous prefs backed up and am still in business, but next time I need to trash prefs I wont be able to. Help

Sorry, I won't be any help with your problem. But I find it unnecessary to delete prefs on a weekly basis.

Instead of trashing, move the files into a folder on your desktop.
Trash that folder after Pro Tools has rebooted and you are sure everything is working.

I actually meant monthly routine, which I find puts the life back in my system. After mixing 5 days a week over a month my system seems to start lagging and acting strangely, especially since Protools 10

Thanks Timothy, I use the database helper app to back up my prefs before trashing so I can always get them back if there are issues

Guys its insane that you trash the preferences so often.
I hardly do it even if I upgrade from one version to another.
Usually it solves very little. For what reason you trash them?
Try to change amount of processors e.g. if you have 16 try 7.
In my case it made my system rock stable after a lo....ong time.

Open the console utility and then launch Pro Tools. Check to see what is causing the crash on boot. My bet is that it is the DAE engine located in ~/Library/Frameworks/DAE.framework. It is probably not the right version. You can do a get info on it and see if it is version 10.3.5. If it is not the correct version, reinstall pro tools.

Also, I agree with the rest of the group. It is rare to delete preferences so often especially in a single user station.

Hope that helps.

To answer the question I would hold down N during the splash screen loading and then I think you should be able to boot back up

I have been using Protools since 1991, Sound Tools before that, along with Audiofile, DAR, Studer Dyaxis and so on. Using Apple computers since 1986. Rebuilding destop DB and permissions, trashing prefs, optimizing and defragmenting hard drives, zapping Pram and all the associated trouble shooting and maintenance items have been a part of my arsenal since day 1, or at least when I found out they existed. I think saying deleting prefs regularly to be unnecessary unless you are having problems, or as it was so eloquently put "insane", is like saying changing the oil in your car is unnecessary unless the engine is knocking. I for one prefer to avoid dealing with issues/crashes and keep things fresh. This is the first issue I have had with my rig since installing it in 2011. I have multiple people using this rig and I receive sessions from all over the world so I like to head off any issues before they become an issue.

Anyway, that's my little rant for the day. Thanks for all the suggestions, the issue looks to be a plug in demo my assistant was trying out that wasn't ready for prime time
