Default Mpc 2000xl with protools

ok i plan to use a mpc 2000xl with protools but my question or my issue is ok so for example lets say i have melody on my protools and i want to add drums or sounds to it with the mpc how do i go about doing that. I know you can like sync it with the midi but i dont want to just record the sound as the melody plays because it won't be quantized. is there a way that i can still hear the melody while i record the drum track on my mpc and then after when im happy with the drums then i will track it out in the protools ?

not sure if the 2000xl does both mtc and midi clock but what I did with my 4000 is midi clock one way and mtc the other, set the offset to match pt session offset and then the transports on both were slaved to each other and masters also.

Set up like this I could hit playstart on mpc and protools would run and I could do whatever on mpc - or I could swing to my keyboard/mouse and run protools and mpc would run with the session as I was editing in protools. Just make sure you setup a pre-roll on pt transport to give it enough time to lock up
