I'm stumped by this question I was asked
When you bounce to disk for a cd, you obviously place a dither in the master fader in the last insert. But why then do you have the option of the bit depth in your bounce to disk selection? One of my friend asked me this today as we were bouncing a track we did for his band.
By habbit without asking myself the question, even if there was a dither in the master fader, I've always set the bit depth to 16 and the sampling at 44.1. Am I double dithering? |

Re: I'm stumped by this question I was asked
No, you 're not double dithering. You just have the option to bounce at different bit rates. For example, I tend to BTD at 24 bit in PT, with no dither, then when I'm ready to make a cd I will bring each file into waveburner, a logic studio ap capable of burning red book cds, and apply dither from there.
The only exception is if I am bouncing to mp3, in which case I use a 16 bit dither in PT.
