Default Help with using FATSO by Empirical Labs

hi! I have been wanting to get this product, it's seems quite straightforward to use...but u see, i also like some of my electric guitars on the Amplitube plug in...so the question is, have u tried using FATSO together with Amp farm or amplitube? if so, wat is the signal chain? i'm thinking how to use the FATSO together with the amplitube...if i use the bus out from protools to FATSO and back, and then record...i'm wondering if there will be too much latency? coz it's like ok..

guitar to preamp to protools with amplitube plug in turned on...then that track, bus out to FATSO, FATSO back to protools and record...all in real time...i'm wondering if it'll show too much latency! what do u guys think? i'm sure some of u guys use guitar plug ins with outboard gear...if u do, how do u usually chain ii?? using the FATSO as example...thanks!

PS it would be better if i could do it all at once...as in real time? thanks

if you're recording guitars direct I would probably track with guitar to preamp to fatso to a/d convertor with amp farm as an insert. the idea would be to print a fairly warm (don't overdo it, you want a sound that's flexible) direct sound while tracking while keeping amp farm as a plug in so you can change and tweak the amp settings/cabinet emulation when mixing.

vtone's got it. I'd track with it in front of the A/D. You just have to make sure it's not too mushy...or the ampfarm/amplitude sound will suffer.....or get cooler (whatever you're going for)

good luck. The FATSO is killin' ...especially on the mix bus I think.

I dont think the Fatso will be of much use with virtual amps. For all that fannying around with D/A A/D and the resultant quality loss - you might just as well use one of the "warming" plug ins....

Anlog Channel
Inflator
DAD tape

But with Mic's? Real amps?

THAT'S where it becomes usefull and does it's unique magic.
