Haven't tried the L2 ('cause it has such a short demo time) yet but some people have said that you can pump "audiophile" material up to 10db with the L2 without distortion...(As opposed to the L1, with which you wouldn't want to continuously limit more than maybe 3db when handling "sensitive" material.)

Yes, big difference I can hear. You can hit the L2 much harder.

Took me a few years to realise that by inserting L1 things started sounding just a little bit more artificial : not with L2 any more
Also the automatic release algorithm in L2 is a definite killer. You get less pumping effects.

I rarely use it to squash things but I must say that in "reasonable" mode L2 is a audiophile quality tool (to my ears...

I've never liked the L1, but I like the L2. I've only heard the hardware L2. Is the software version as good?

The main difference between the two is that the L2 has an auto release time option.

Just listen 'Undone'. It sounds like band is badly stoned and some guy is having a fun with the mixer. You can hear some nice intro, and than that guy cranks up guitars but has forgotten to put lifeless vocal up.

No life in that music at all.

Do you mean the main difference between the L1 and L2 or the difference between the hardware/software L2?

According to Seva, one of the co-authors of the L2, on another forum he wrote:

"there is a serious difference between the L1 and the L2, btw. L1 has 2nd order noise shaping (12dB/oct). L2 has 9th order (!)."

9th order noise shaping relates to 56dB/oct.
