Default crash during startup

I have a powerbook g3 wallstreet, have set the sound to internal mic, 44 mhz, lots of ram (160 meg) and startup the protools after installation and it freezes during "loading DAE". Can't even open up the program. Any thoughts? I have no extra sound hardware besides the basics.

yeah tranceman, i have the same problem.
my system is a g4/400pci
i installed protools free last week, it worked fine for a couple of days, them i tried to run it again yesterday and bang: it freezes during startup at the "loading dae" line.
i've tried everything i can think of, minimum extensions, unpluging all external equipment etc, even fresh install of os9, but all to no avail.
oms is working fine because that comes up in logic audio. but for some reason the dae won't load. i've tried all the things in the quick-start guide.

help!

okay, i've found a solution (kind of) to the PTF freeze on 'launching DAE'.

delete all things todo with protools / dae / oms / opcode / etc.
restart with base 9.0.4 extensions.
reinstall oms, then protools free.
before you run it make a backup copy of the whole DAE folder.
then if protools ever freezes at startup, simply quit, restart, then replace the DAE folder with the backup copy. after this it should all work fine.

in my case, i have to replace the folder everytime i run PTF so i have made an applescript to do it for me.

anyways, hope all my restarting and reinstalling will save someone else the hassle.

alex.
