So have you figured out how much ram you're going to need? Forget about getting into the weeds like you've been doing and just watch the activity monitor. But like I said ram is like money - you can never have too much of either. I believe like a lot of people do - overprovisioning in things like ram or disk space is a goo thing.

I don't know much but this could serve some deciphering. Is buffering where operating system resorts to disk space for excusing overloading of RAM? Maybe when the system buffers it uses disk space and if that same drive is holding the files for pro tools, it could lag. maybe why we need an external drive dedicated to tools like the specs page says for pro tools?

Yes.

You should always have a fast drive for your projects. Mine is on an m.2 drive.

The system drive should ONLY have your apps and supporting app files. Nothing else. Easiest way to keep a computer running for 10+ years.....

I said this before and I'll say it again - you're getting way too much into the weeds with this. Just get as much ram as you can afford and put into your computer. STOP trying to micro-analyze this as it's bordering on OCD.

Just telling you the simple truth and if you can't see that then that's your problem. I'd rather have more ram than I need than need more ram than I have. I hate disk swapping as it's never quite fast enough unless you have a fast nvme ssd with a proper fast connection. Where's Darryl Ramm when you need him?
