creating hip-hop and pop songs
What are common ways that people go about creating hip-hop or pop songs? Do they start off with a cool drum beat and then work around that? Do they first get a good bass line going or do they write lyrics and then create a melody for them? Just want to get some good info. If anybody knows how pop songs like "pop" by 'Nsync (some of the beats and effects going on it that song are cool) or other popular songs on the billboard are first created that would be great.

Re: creating hip-hop and pop songs
first of all there is an idea that gives you an imagination of what the song is all about ... mostly about LOVE
means basic chords and a simple melodie . next thing is arranging the chords and workout the simple melodie to fit with words to create some lyrics . as far as those points are done ( chords , melodie , vocallines ) a producer steps in and tries to figure out which way to go & which way would fit best to the artist whos performing the song . so they look for the right sounds , etc. theres sometimes an engeneer who tries to get those sounds the producer wants to have . at the end the song will be mixed and mastered before all the business stuff happens . on the other side there are thousands of people who are doing it all on their own . just depends on how far can u get with it on your own . you cant expect that any write etc. is a ZAPPA himself , so most time there need to be other people to create your imagination . just for the fact that its hard to play in 4 different major leagues ( writing , lyrics , recording , mixing etc. ) . on the other hand , most " commercial music " is boring as hell , but thats another story . hope that helps ?!?!?! |

Re: creating hip-hop and pop songs
there is no forumal for pop/hip hop. It all comes down to what inspires you to write. It could be a banging beat , a sample, a guitar riff, bass riff, a keyboard sound or a melody, All of these can the the catalyst in this type of music. As long as it feels good and keeps you head bouncing...this is what counts. I disagree with the above post because hip/hop and most r&B/pop operate and are created differently than in other styles. For example the producer is usually the writer of the music potion of the song ( the track) and melody and lyrics are added later. Occassionally the melody and lyrci come first and then the music is added. what I'm getting at is that in this style the song is usually not created from scratch with everybody vibing in the same room. It does happen but more often then note the track was created first.
Hope this makes sense to you |
