oo3 and Mackie Big Knob

What is the best way to configure my monitoring?

Im using PT9 on an imac.

I take a stereo out from the 003 into the 'DAW' input on the big knob, then monitor set A into a pair of Roland DS5 powered monitors. I have the volume on the Rolands turned all the way up.
Im not too sure how to configure the big knob for optimum monitoring. On the DAW in there is what looks like a gain control and a -10/+4 button.
With the current set up i am hitting the red on the master fader in PT but not on the big knob. Should i use the gain control to get an exact representation on the Mackie as in PT? What do i do with the -10/+4 button?

Any suggestions would be greatfully received!

On the 003 setup that I have with a big knob,

Big Knob is set to: -10 on the DAW MIX input, Level is set at 50% (straight up)
003 is set to: monitor level at 50%.
Monitors: (Event Opals) Set to flat.. no boost, no cut. (check the user manual to see where the optimum setting for your monitors is).
