Default Feature request - selective undo

It'll be nice to be have a pull down undo list, where one can undo something that was done say 5 moves ago, without having to undo all 4 moves that were done after.

Example:

Move #1: Punch a line on the vocal track;

Move #2: Copy bars 17-18 of drums;

Move #3: Paste those 2 bars @ bars 33-34;

Move #4: Created a new play list on the bass track;

Move #5: Record a new bass pass;

Currently -

If you want to undo move #1 (punch a vocal line), you must undo moves 2,3,4,5 first, losing all the work that was done after punching that vocal line;

It will be nice to be able to select this specific undo from an undo list, without needing to undo all 4 moves that were made after.

The little bit I'm familiar with Nuendo, they have an edit "history" window that allows you to do just that. I believe it keeps track of all edits for the duration of your continuous session. Neat huh?

Does this mean Producer's & Artist's will have yet another way NOT to commit to something? OMG!

Ciao Tal, how are you? Good feature. Digital Performer 3.11 has an Undo history window. Very useful. Take care,

Marco

It's funny...for some reason I have never had much of a problem with Pro Tools 1 level of undo.......yes now up to 16 undos is VERY useful......but I have always used playlists...etc. 16 sequential undos seems like plenty.

A VERY useful tool would be a cross-hair to select across multiple 'name plates' in the edit and mix windows.

Selecting using the group enable quadrant is cool and works....but a cross-hair seems like an easy engineering feat...nothing else is going on in terms of selections in that area of the screen.

If Nuendo and Performer users enjoy this feature, I'd like to be able to enjoy it too.

I also rely on playlists, but at some point those become unmanageable.

And speaking of which -

Pro Tools lacks in some of the most basic areas, such as info entry.

The info menu provides 5 short lines that are not good for much. When saving a new version of the session, I'll type some info in Command-I area of the session icon, but again - it's very limited, and can't be accessed from within the session.

The best thing that Digi can do for us, is to add an info box with the New Playlist or Duplicate Playlist menus.

In that box one can type info related to the new or duplicated playlist, and then - when selecting any playlists - a pop-up menu will display the info saved with that playlist BEFORE selecting it.

It is a great idea. Does that mean it will soon become a reality, digiengineer? And if so, please make sure the LE crowd gets it too.

I find the Dig. Perf. 3.11 Undo system to be very convoluted, mysterious, and unneccesarily complex. I think they must have put a lot of man-hours into developing it, and I'm not sure everyone's finding very useful. I haven't warmed up to it yet. I'm happy with just a simple 16 level undo system
