Default Dual-867 MDD G4/PTLE 7.0 DaveC Test

I just upgraded to PTLE 7.0 on my Mirror-Drive-Door Dual-867MHz G4 Mac. Decided to run the DaveC test. Result: 26 tracks record without stopping.

Though this machine isn't qualified by Digi to run with PTLE 7, I'm happy to say that so far it seems quite stable. Particularly happy because it means I can avoid upgrading my hardware for awhile yet.

I've also found that I'm able to run more plugs on mix sessions that used to choke under PTLE 6.4. Of course, it seems like each new plug I find that I like has stiffer CPU requirements, so this may be a short-lived improvement.

I'm curious... I currently have 768MB of RAM. Will increasing it improve my system's operation in any significant way?

Dual-867 G4
768 MB ram
120 GB WD and Seagate drives mounted internally for audio recording
plus various external drives, depending on the client

Significantly?

No.

Moderately to Noticably?

Yes.

I wouldn't go any smaller than a 512mb though (to add to your 768mb), adding 1GB or more would definitely breathe some life into that system.

I am glad to hear you have stable results. It seems we have almost identical systems. I was thinking about upping my ram to at least 1gig and getting PT7. I didn't hear any positive results concerning the Dual 867 and 7 til I read this. Thanks for the info!

Sweet!
