Lots of us do it. I have a 17" Powerbook, 4-slot Magma chassis (33 MHz, Silencer fans), HD3, and I run audio off of a couple of FW800 drives (one OWC and one Western Digital in a Granite Digital chassis) and video off of a FW400/Canopus through a Granite Digital firewire hub. I've dubbed 3 TV movies this way; not one crash or problem. Track/voice count will be less than your desktop, but it's not bad. Set Playback Engine to 4, max out CPU usage, and you should be good to go.

You bet, I've got a couple of Magams and they work great.

Here's a similar setup to what I use.

It will record at whatever you tell it; 44.1-192.

17" Hammerhead (1Ghz, 1GB, OSX3.3)
6.4 TDM on HD-2 Accel - (Magma CB4 DRQ)
Glyph GT-308 (SCSI/FW400) (+1200GB)

108-120 trks@24/48k
80-90 trks@24/88.1k

I don't work at 192, but I'll post more figures when (if) I do. Works great, no flaws and I'm running this setup 14-20 hrs/day, everywhere. Mostly, I use it to track 32inputs at 24/48 or mix down up to 60 tracks with minimal DSP - which is a dream. How many of us out there really sport more than 100 tracks at once is a question I have..

I've seen this post up and wanted to let you know that THIS SYSTEM WORKS and works well. I'm hoping to transfer it all to a G5 which I'm having Glyph rackmount for me.

-Sean.
