Can protools do this?
I've got a crappy soundy snare on a track, anyone know if protools can replace it with a snare sample from my Alesis SR-16 drum machine? I've heard of programs that can replace with their own sounds, but I got a drum machine right here. Thanks alot! |

Re: Can protools do this?
That must be a really bad sounding snare.
Sorry, couldn't resist that one. I don't think you can trigger with the SR16 can you? I know you can with the rackmount unit. If you can then you just have to bus the snare track out to the trigger input on the Alesis, and bring it's output in on a new track. You'll have some latency to deal with, but you should be able to line it up with the original pretty easily by zooming in on the transients. |

Re: Can protools do this?
if you don't have soundreplacer do it manually...create a new audio track and record the snare sample on it, copy it then paste it on the same track using the tab to transient key on the bad snare track...

Re: Can protools do this?
Here's an old school snare replacer trick for before the DAW days:
1. bus your snare to a seperate output. 2. route the output to a small guitar or bass combo amp. 3. lay the amp down with the speaker facing up. 4. place a snare drum on top of the amps speaker and mic it to taste. 5. when you hit play the attack of the snare drum track causes your new snare to sound as if it's being hit. dynamics and all! 6. adjust the mic for optimal sound and print the track. of course the latency issue will come into play so be sure to nudge the track to the right spot when you're done. This trick takes a little effort but I've done it before and it works great. It's one of those ass saver tricks that can really come through for you in a pinch. Good luck.

Re: Can protools do this?
Dose the SR-16 have in external trigger input?
If so: you could bus the bad snare out* to a trigger input having it trigger the sound you want patch the audio out of the SR-16 to your interface input record that input shift the newly recorded track back in time to match the original *will probably need to put high and low pass filters on the original snare to make the transit peek stick out so not to get false triggers

Re: Can protools do this?
I agree with stootka. This is also know as reamping or "resnareing" This is probably the easiest and best sounding option if you have the snare and amp. I have used this to fix a few snares with pretty good results.
