Jumping in here late, I know. I would go Joe, though I see all sides of this - I am a drummer.

On the Neil Pert and Keith Moon thing, they were both in trios, where muscicans have to "overplay."

ZZ top was a trio, there drummer kept just a constant beat and did fills where needed, so your analogy is not always true.

Point well taken. It's not always true.

Jmoe!

We decided on Joe. It just feels too good. Moe took it well, he's a great guy and he'll find another band that will give him the freedom to play what he wants and I'm sure he'll be happier because of it. Thanks again.

"OverPlaying" lets look at that and some durmmers that you could or at least I considered "Overplayers"

i have to point out that most drummers that overplay are not tight. if the drummer
overplays but is right on beat then it may not be a bad thing that they are overplaying. also being tight encludes playing the same fills everytime like they are on the CD you record =).
so what if the drummer get's bored maybe the guitar or bass player get's bored playing the same
exact thing everytime, but thats how the song was written. and if any of the band members get
bored from playing a song then they should stop playing it because if ur bored then ur not feeling
it and if ur not feeling it you wont give it your best...

Ah drummers. Good ones are hard to find. I'd go with the one who can keep it steady. Joe it is. My favorite drummer of all time is my best friend from high school. Unfortunately he lives in Dallas and I live in Germany. Every few years we get together and jam and he is still amazing. It always feels just...right playing with him. Someday we'll record something together.

BTW, What do you call a guitarist without a girlfriend?

Homeless.

What does it mean when the drummer is drooling out of both corners of his mouth?

The stage is level.

Okay. Enough of that.
