i like to advise to keep the old machine running while you set up the new one, as preferences slowly migrate over and bugs are uncovered/worked around, you still have the old machine to fall back on. at some point, all new sessions are created on the new system and the old system can be used for going back into old projects for fixes, and then is eventually phased out.

Yes, thanks. Good advice. I absolutely plan to keep the old machine going while I setup the new one (although I won't be able to swap the HDX card back and forth between the two). I just can't get a good handle on whether Pro Tools on the silicon Macs is so full of bugs that I will find myself not able to switch over to the new machine? Trying to figure out whether it's even prudent to do a big upgrade now...

The biggest hurdle I have encountered is plugins that do not run on macOS Sonoma. I have to remain on macOS Ventura until the few I need are ready to go.

Other than that, I haven’t hit on any showstopper bugs in Pro Tools 2023 on the MacBook Pro M1 Max. My set up is a simple home studio so the pro’s may have more to say about this.

I am jonesing for a Mac Studio M2 or M3. Just bought a lottery ticket in hopes of a windfall.

The issues change with each version of PT and MacOS.... that has been a constant for years.

I thought I would find a list publicly available. A quick search was somewhat fruitful, but not exactly what I had in mind.

I will make a run at a better answer after the holiday.

I am running 14.2 (beta3) and only plugins that don't work here are the Lexicins, but they are notoriously slow to update anyway.

Whatever works in Ventura as ARM native will also work in Sonoma as ARM native. There is nothing inherently incompatible in Sonoma.
