PTLE and EZDrummer - midi mapping ?
Hi
I just got EZDrummer and I like it so much that I would like to be able to play the instrument with my old Yamaha DTXpress electronic drumkit. Problem is the midi notes of the DTX are fixed and are not the same as the notes used by EZDrummer. I've been looking in the PT reference manual for a midi mapping function for midi instruments, i didnt find anything. Synchronic seems to do this, but it's expensive just for midi mapping ! Help most welcome Philippe |

Re: PTLE and EZDrummer - midi mapping ?
I have a DTXpress III head (changed some of the trigger/pads around in favour of muti-zone Extreme ones) and have created user kits to conform to EZDrummer Rock/Nashville/DFH and Claustraphobic within the yamaha head, no need to map in PT. I checked the on-line manual for the DTXpress (similar to the III), page 18 it shows how to change the note value.

Re: PTLE and EZDrummer - midi mapping ?
Hi Brad,
Thanks for the post. I'm stupid, my edrums is a dtxplorer, not a dtxpress and it does not seem like you can change the midi notes assignations, and it's not at the General Midi standard so they dont match what EZdrummer wants. Thanks for your help Philippe |

Re: PTLE and EZDrummer - midi mapping ?
You are correct the midi notes transmitted by the dtxplorer are hard coded into the firmware and can not be overridden. I have a not so perfect work around and that would be to, track using the samples built in to the dtxplorer, once you are happy with the performance and have gotten everything right, translate the required notes (the ones that do not map to EZD properly) using the select and transpose functions from the midi operations window. Then set the output of the midi track to the EZDrummer plug-in (which would be on a seperate track) instead of the dtxplorer. Just a thought.
Actually after a little "googling" I came across a freeware program called midipipe that some people are using with drumagog. It 'might' do what you what you want, will take a little experimentation.

I have the same problem.
Digitechsupport? This can´t be a very hard feature for you to implement, can it? Is this available in PT8 perhaps? There are many instances where users could really use this feature.

You could always get an old Alesis D4 or such, and use it as a brain to send the notes/MIDI info to EZ Drummer in Pro Tools. I did it with a D4 and DM5, and it's a bit of a pain, but once it's done and saved, it's awesome! All you need to do is plug your triggers into the D4 and then just use a MIDI out of that to your computer/Pro Tools. EZ Drummers note assignments are pretty far off from General MIDI, but their note info is in the Help PDF. You just have to match up your pads to the D4, etc and then assign the correct MIDI notes, and you're good to go...

Re: PTLE and EZDrummer - midi mapping ?
There's also this, which may work better, and is much newer than the old DM5
You can adjust threshold, re-triggering, etc as well. You can't beat freeware tho http://drums-percussion.musiciansfri...ace?sku=449754

Have you used it? Any pointers? Nevertheless, Why shouldn´t this be a integrated feature in PT? It really can´t be that complicated to integrate.
