multi device sync - BETA / DA88 / PT
Hi folks,
Sorry to ask such a rudimentary question but I need some assistance: Okay, so as it is, I have a DA88 driving Protools for some laybacks (laybacks from PT to DA88), setup like this: DA88 "TC Out" to PTSYNC "LTC In" PTSYNC "Loop Sync" in/out to PT I/O "Loop Sync" PT I/O "EXT Clock OUt" to DA88 "Word Sync In" DA88 "TDIF" to PT I/O Session setup is: Clock Source: Sync I/O Sync: Clock Ref : Internal / VSO Position: LTC Video Format: NTSC 9 Pin link: "checked" TimeCode: Nothing checked, Freewheel set to 8 frames, 29.97 ND (no pulldown) With this setup the DA88 is driving...but I need to put a BETASP in the chain to check final sync on a tied tape, digitizing the tape isn't an option. Thanks for your help!! Jahhn |

Re: multi device sync - BETA / DA88 / PT
One possible problem with the way you're connecting your DA88 to PT is that one is clock master while the other is TC master. You should always make one machine clock and TC master otherwise when the TC slave machine is speeding up/slowing down to chase the TC it's being fed, it's also sending out variable clock back to the master it's trying to chase. So for starters I'd clock the DA88 to video ref, and send word clock and LTC to PT to chase.
To add the Beta into the loop I'd make the Beta the master. Clock the Beta and DA88 to video ref. Clock PT via wordclock from the DA88. Send LTC from the Beta to the DA88 and LTC from the DA88 to PT. Lock the DA88 first using it's internal synchronizer and then lock PT to it. Cheers, Mark
