I'm running PT 8 with a Mac Pro 2.8 Dual on Leopard, and have had the same problem. I discovered this on the Spectatronics web site.

Using plugins with ProTools under OSX 10.5


Just like plugins from a number of other 3rd party RTAS plugin makers, there is a known problem when using Omnisphere with ProTools under OSX with a multi-core Macintosh and using the maximum setting for the number of RTAS processors. We are all working with Digidesign to resolve this issue, but if you experience playback errors when using this configuration, turn down the number of RTAS processors in ProTools' Playback Engine settings. Also, we recommend turning on the "Ignore errors During Playback" option.
