Default Re: Core Audio Manager, Pro Tools 8 LE, and I-tunes/Quicktime/etc.

I am also having problems with core audio with Pro Tools 8

I have an HD3 system.

Its seems that:
1 Core audio will not work at all with Quicktime 7.6. No audio.

2 When you get core audio to work with Itunes etc. then subsequently lunch PT with video in the session it takes 5 seconds for the transport to respond. Ie when you press start nothing happens for 5 seconds.

The only solution to this is to delete the preference files in on the system drive in the folder: Library/Preferences:

com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
com.apple.soundpref.plist

Then its works ok once you do a restart and relaunch PT but core audio will not launch automatically after that and will not work with itunes until you goto 'sound' in System prefs and select Digdesign HW (HD)

Anyone got any ideas?

Try toggling between Built-In and Digi HW in the Sound control panel after opening your QT movie.

This is in the Read Me - make sure to deselect Digi HW in the Sound control panel when Pro Tools is launched.

Thanks for your response.
I tried the toggling, actually this is what you have had to do for the longest time.
I still get no audio from QT with Core Audio athough If you select internal speaker it works.

Deselecting 'Digi HW' solved the 2nd problem with video in the session.
PT plays correctly when you do this.

Hope we can fix QT issue.
Thanks.

Just do what I do and run a 1/8" stereo cable to split 1/4" or RCA out into your 002 and hit the ALT/SRC button on the front and WALLAH!! it works.

No Core Audio needed.

Great idea for this work around, however all inputs are being used.
I am sure there must be a way to get core audio to work with Quicktime.
It worked before I upgraded to QT 7.6

Use VLC for videos and Itunes for Audio... Seems to be working for me running Digi 003 Rack , Leopard 10.5.5. Hope this helps! Seems like QT for now is almost useless It works maybe 5% of the time with hours worth or effort. But VLC supports almost any video file format so Cheers!
